Netflix has one show called Dark that people still talk about, even years after it ended. It is known as one of the best sci-fi shows ever made. But there is another Netflix show about time travel that is just as good. And almost nobody remembers it. That show is called Travelers.
A Hidden Gem Just Like Dark
Travelers came out one year before Dark, and just like Dark. It ran for three seasons. Critics and fans both loved it while it was airing. But Travelers does not use time loops the way Dark does. Instead, it has a different idea. People from the far future can send their minds back in time into the bodies of people from our time. Right at the exact moment those people were about to die.
This idea lets the show feel like a spy story mixed with real human drama. The characters who receive these future minds still have to deal with normal 21st-century problems. Like addiction and difficult relationships. While also secretly working for the future. It’s a smart mix of science fiction and everyday human struggle.
Even though Travelers got cancelled before the writers could finish everything they planned. Season three still gives the story a proper ending. That makes it one of the rare cancelled shows that doesn’t leave fans hanging.
Why It Never Became As Popular As Dark
So why did Dark become huge while Travelers got forgotten? Part of the reason is marketing. Travelers had made together with a Canadian channel called Showcase. So Netflix never promoted it as hard as its own original shows. The show also starts slowly. Which may have made it harder for new viewers to get hooked right away.
If Netflix had given Travelers more time and more seasons. It might have grown into a huge hit, just like Dark did. This is similar to what happened with other underrated Netflix sci-fi shows like Sense8 and The OA, which also have small but loyal fan bases years later.
Still Worth Watching Today
Travelers first came out almost ten years ago, and it will probably never get new seasons. But the three seasons that do exist are still full of great storytelling. If you loved Dark and want something similar, Travelers is exactly the kind of show you’ve been missing.
